Naples

From Guardanapoli Hotel is possible, on the days the north wind blows, to admire the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvio, and even the island of Capri. The city of Naples is famous all over the world for the charm of its landscape, for its history, its monuments but above all for its folklore. Its narrow streets, full of life and noise, with people on the balconies and the clothes hanging out to dry, are very very suggestive.
From Naples is very easy to reach the isles of the Archipelago Campano, Ischia, Capri and Procida. There are no words to describe the beauty of Capri, the pearl of the Mediterranean and desired holidays destination, famous for its blue sea, its caves, its small squares, its alley, its white house and of course the Faraglioni.
From Naples is also easy to reach the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, among the best preserved archaeological sites in the world. The city of Pompei, founded in the VI century BC, became a Roman colony in 80 B.C. under the name of Cornelia Veneria Pompeianorum. Ercolano instead had to submit to the less prestigious title of Municipium. It is impossible to forget the eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed in 79 AD the two cities, completely buried under a thick blanket of ash and lapilli. The visit to the sites is an excellent experience; among the ruins one can find a new dimension: the preservation of the archeological finds is such to give the suggestive sensation of making a jump back in time, in the days where the streets, the shops and the houses were full of life.

Very interesting is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii; the Sanctuary is one of the most popular centre of Marian devotion in Italy, with the famous painting of the Virgin of the Rosary and Child, an ancient picture, maybe of the VII century, trimmed with several jewels and richly framed with bronze.

Moving towards south there is the Sorrento Peninsula, one of the most beautiful and well-known coast in the world, rich in amazing landscapes and monuments. Legend tells that mythical sirens living in the sea of Sorrento tempted Ulysses with a melodious song. Nowadays the Penisola is a well appreciated tourist resort, rich in beauties, beaches and beautiful bays, some of them reachable only by sea, with cliffs falling sheer to the sea, strange shaped rocks and mineral water springs. At the edge of the Penisola, where the coasts of Amalfi and Sorrento meet, there is Punta Campanella, classified as a marine nature reserve, park land and marine environment protection, which reaches out into the sea, bowing a short distance to the majestic beauty of Capri.
